James (Jim) R Hansen, Artist

The early years growing up in Kansas and Wyoming always amazed and inspired Jim through the beauty of the open hills and prairies. Later in life living in Colorado added a new dimension to his appreciation of the landscape through the exposure to the majestic mountain ranges and scenes.  Jim says, “The landscapes being enriched by the play of light from the sunrises and sunsets, and the ever changing values and subtle hues gives a new experience daily in which to be inspired to paint the landscape.”

Jim's first exposure to the creative arts was in 1989 when he assisted in setting up an exhibit in Loveland Colorado for Clyde Aspevig, a well-known and recognized landscape artist. From that experience and short relationship he was inspired and hooked, and acted on that inspiration to start painting.

As a late comer to the art world, Jim began pursuing his painting passion during his middle years. As a self-taught painter, Jim paints various subjects. His participation in the local art community in Loveland Colorado through the Thompson Valley Art League and Lincoln Gallery helped expand and develop his style toward a realism approach.

In 2002, with the demands of his career, Jim set aside his brushes until after retiring. In 2019, he picked up the brushes again. As he says, “Once I picked up my brushes, the passion to paint was reignited as if it never was put out!” Since then he has completed many pieces of varying sizes in oil and watercolor. The nature of the subject will have a direct influence on which medium he uses.
